Who is your inspiration?
Since I started as a watercolorist, my creative inspiration was Andrew Wyeth. I always admired his ability - with just a few deft strokes - to capture realness and a sense of light and mood... to make a statement. These same principles of good design used by Wyeth are used every day at NAS. End result for both: the simple communication of ideas in an innovative way.
Who inspires me today? Anyone who demonstrates a lot of passion for their work - no matter what field they’re in.
What are your biggest strengths and weaknesses?
My biggest strength is identifying, motivating, and retaining creative talent. I’m also able to mediate a challenging situation with almost anyone. My biggest weakness: I’m a perfectionist.
If you had a word of advice for an up-and-coming designer, what would it be?
Keep all your creative options open. Be passionate about your work and don’t be afraid to be too far out there with design ideas. Persevere. If you have the talent, someone is going to recognize it.
Do you prefer to use a PC or a Mac? Why?
Our MAC-only designers say, "definitely MAC." They’re easier, more intuitive, and for every 10 times you fix a PC, you fix a MAC once. That’s why corporations typically have 99% PC-trained people on the help desk. Also, MACs cost more - and they’re worth it.
Our designers who use both say "definitely PC." MAC spends all its energy on pretty icons and graphics. The PC is focused on speed and better networking. It’s way faster?
How do you deal with creative block?
We don't have a lot of time for creative block around here. Our deadlines are our inspiration.
What is your favorite snack food in your office?
We have quarterly birthday events where staff members bring in all kinds of great stuff. Creative themes like "Hooray for Hollywood" will inspire anything from Walk of Fame star-shaped cookies to Paparazzi Pizza to Veal Oscar. Every event is the result of an extremely talented creative staff who know how to make every dish look as phenomenal as it tastes.
Are large companies easier to work with, or small ones?
The bottom line for us is the creative. We like to work with any company that will give us the best opportunity to do award-quality work.
Did you major in art or graphic design in college?
I majored in graphic design with a minor in photography.
What is the motto of your design firm? What does it imply?
Creating Demand. Delivering Talent. Changing Lives. We’re in the business of helping companies recruit A-level talent. And every day, we ask people something that goes way beyond buying a product. We ask them to come out of their comfort zone, take a new job, and change their whole lives.
If you could do it all over again, would you?
This experience has definitely been fun, challenging, rewarding and, at times, tense! I work daily with a dynamic team of wonderfully sensitive, talented people with many diverse creative strengths and attributes. So the answer, is, yes, most likely I would do it all again. However, sometimes I do wonder what it would have been like if I had followed one of my alternative plans…that of becoming a lawyer or a high school or college baseball coach.

Editor's Note: NAS Recruitment Communications has been responsible for creating wonderfully balanced, professional, and creative design pieces throughout the years, and impressing our judges with brilliant and vibrant marketing pieces.
